This is just sad, with Ford in peril and might be in need of TARP funds (as soon as NOW), Ford is determined to sell off Volvo, which has not been doing rather well recently. As Volvo's under Ford's increasingly leaking umbrella, Volvo's parent company is already all busy worrying for their own backyard on fire, and will let go of Volvo for $6 Billion (an amount higher than the current market cap than Ford itself). Now previously rumored Geely (Some China knock off expert) was keen on exploring the purchase of Volvo was now denied by the manufacturer (We'd guessed Volvo employees would be very hesitant under such a brand with no dignity and honor in whatsoever ways)
Who else would be interested then? Well at least there are still rumors going on suggesting Renault might be interested. However, honestly speaking, we don't see any strategic benefits could be gained. One suggestion however, would be for Volvo to merge with Saab, both originating from the same market, same country, both FWD platform, with good turbo-charged technologies from each's end.
If the two were to merge under the guidance of the Swedish government, with backing from some Martian Hedge Fund (All Earth's $$$ were no where in sight as for time being), restrategizing their approach, focusing on the Scandinavian markets, both brands might just have an edge going on from there.
GM, Ford, stop selling brands that you've screwed up. Giving them away might help, faster.
