Nissan GTR Spec V Official!

Finally, after almost a year of wild speculations, Nissan dropped the gauntlet today and officially announced the GTR Spec-V.

First thing, the wild speculations of 1 million horsepowers? NOT TRUE. As the direction where Nissan intends for the Spec V, is to have a road legal version of a racing GTR. Thus one could expect what's in place for this Godzilla.

First off. YES, that paint job is amazing. Ultimate Black Opal's the name, and yes, its Spec V exclusive. Of course, much reported since it was first spied, those light weight 20" Nismo wheels was offered, along of with slew of carbon fibre diffusers, rear spoilers, brake ducts and grill.

Now for the unseen part, contrary to what many had anticipated, Nissan did not intend to go on the route of only aiming at increasing power (Good), instead, they've only modified a new high gear boost controller that could increased the volume of compressed oxygen spooled into the twin turbo's of the 3.8ltr V6 engine. (Shown here, the little green logo) This helps with producing higher torque in mid-high RPM. This only works temporarily, something like an overboost or afterburner and to add drama, the driver only have 80 seconds on their hands before the system explodes into a huge fireball returns to normal. Interesting, videogame like? More than ever. Want? Definitely! There's a full titanium exhaust system, along with tweaked suspension and carbon ceramic disc brakes.

Inside, to shed off more weight, a la Porsche GTR3, the rear seats was removed, along with plenty of interior panels now finished in carbon fiber. There are no mention of performance figures, however considering that aftermarket players would have had this area covered, we reckon this is the correct direction the Spec V should pursue.

Now the golden question, how much? At least for this, the speculations are true, the price is confirmed at 15,750,000 yen. Considering that the current GTR starts around 8.7 million yen to 9.3 million, a 50% hike from the initial price is a question only those who're longing would be able to answer.

Now for the diamond question, will it come over to USA, or will it even come out of of Japan? Likely, would be our guess, as perhaps many Americans wouldn't find this surprising, but it did for us, as all along since the BCNR33 GTR, it's always called V Spec, a very Japanese approach to English, well since the GTR now makes both its feet knee deep in US soils, some grammar was needed, nonetheless it just sound weird, as Toyota too had a Spec V thing going on with their cars. Nonetheless, check out the 5 oven fresh images from Nissan, and the press release following up.

Developed around the multi-dimensional Nissan GT-R sports car, which was introduced just more than one year ago to universal global acclaim, the new SpecV model builds on the original's "ultimate supercar that anyone can enjoy driving anywhere, at anytime" philosophy - taking it to an entirely new level of "oneness between man and machine." The SpecV model includes unique body, interior and performance equipment and modifications, raising the GT-R's unmatched performance to even higher levels.

The GT-R SpecV's new exterior features include a carbon fiber rear spoiler, a carbon fiber grille, and carbon fiber brake ducts. The SpecV is available exclusively in Ultimate Black Opal (RP) body color. Inside, the SpecV's unique two-seat interior (non-SpecV GT-R models also include a two-place rear seat) offers special Recaro carbon fiber bucket seats, while carbon fiber insets embellish the rear center storage box, instrument panel and other trim areas.

Performance is enhanced with a new high gear boost control device, which momentarily increases boost of the engine's twin turbochargers for greater torque in the intermediate-to-high speed ranges to provide a more powerful feeling of acceleration, while also allowing the engine to operate at a lower speed for improved fuel economy. Other modifications include a titanium-coated exhaust system and carbon-ceramic brakes that provide powerful stopping performance.

The GT-R SpecV is also equipped with lightweight, racing-style forged aluminum wheels that were developed for this model and have been sold by Nissan Motorsports International (NISMO) since September 2008. The lighter unsprung weight provided by the new wheels, together with the enhanced braking capability, an exclusive suspension and high-grip tires, combine to deliver the SpecV's exceptional performance.

The SpecV will be sold at the following seven dealer outlets, each of which is staffed by mechanics with special GT-R SpecV training and who are knowledgeable of racing circuit driving.
