The last car to ever come out from Mercedes and McLaren's partnership. Mercedes had dropped the gauntlet confirming the previously spied Mclaren SLR roadster, and its officially dubbed SLR Stirling Moss, to commemorate the legendary racing driver (he's still alive thou), Sir Stirling Moss, raced from 1948 to 1962, where he won a staggering 194 race from a participation of 497 races, of which 16 are Formula One Grand Prixs. Most notable of his many races, is the record shattering Mille Miglia race where he won the 1597km challenge in 1955, with a time of 10hrs 7 minutes and 48 seconds, a full 1 hr faster than his teammate. The 722 moniker on his car, then and the current McLaren Mercdes SLR 722, is the time where his 300 SLR left the grid, 7:22AM.
Honestly speaking, for Mercedes to 'grab Sir Stirling Moss as the 'Champion with a 300SLR' was actually rather unfair, as Stirling Moss won the 1000km Nurburgring race three times consecutively, twice in an Aston Martin and once in the famous Maserati Birdcage.
Back to the car, this in fact, is actually the first SLR that we liked, as it looks more purpose built, less hairdresser than the SLR where Paris Hilton infamously flashes her 'undercarriage without diffusers'. The SLR Stirling Moss, was equipped with the same 5.5ltr V8 engine in the SLR 722, but tuned to 650hp, giving more grunt, suggesting a limited edition seriousness where only 75 will be built. The Hyper roadster also comes with a two-piece tonneu cover where the entire cockpit can be wrapped or just the passenger seat. Especially important since you wouldn't want even a chewing gum to strike your face whilst travelling 350km/h, the top speed this maniac roadster could achieve. Check out the images and yes, again, it looks so much better than the SLR. Prices? Expect $1 million USD at least. Worthwhile? Every penny, for the heritage, the style, the flair. Let's hope Paris Hilton won't go ordering one.
