2008 Paris Motor Show: Audi A4 TDi Concept E

You might be surprise why we're featuring an Audi A4, or why Audi was bringing an A4 to Paris dubbing it as a concept. Where a quick scroll down shows the labels 2.0TDI showed on the back of the car - nothing special right? Well diesels were well known for their fuel efficiency, and Audi, being one of the forefront players in diesel technology had always achieved stunning results with the 2.0TDi, with a previous long run test reveals a full tank of diesel could take the 2.0TDi a shocking 2000+ kilometers. Well, having strained their R&D engineers to the max into engine technologies, manufacturers have started to look into how else can we achieve better fuel economy apart from designing a low coeeficiant drag shape. Most recently, BMW engage on their Efficient Dynamics realization into their production cars, incorporating small little tweaks to achieve fuel efficiency levels better those of hybrids. Audi now had did their little magic on this run-of-the-mill A4 2.0TDi, which includes Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems, where upon braking or stopping, energy was converted into electricity and stored in the battery, of which then will inturn power some of the in car equipments, taking off strain from the engine, then with Stop Start technology, the engine will cut off in static idles, leaving the stereo, air con to be powered from the stored energy during braking, starting the engine again when the driver lifts his foot off the brake pedal. With such configuration, the A4 2.0TDi Concept e achieves an impossible 3.3 ltrs of petrol for every 100km. Put that into calculation, if your car fills 50 liters of petrol and could travel an average of 500km per full tank, this Concept e could bring you 1515km.
