2008 Paris Motor Show: Audi A1Sportback Concept

Since BMW took over Rover and subsequently developing and re-engineered the modern classic Mini, it proved to the entire world that premium, could indeed go small, with its quirky designs and the nostalgic factor from the original Mini, the new Mini rack up sales charts everywhere, doing even better during the current financial turmoil in US, and amidst the current fuel price hike, Mini's production couldn't even keep up with demand. Now this seemingly monopolization of this unique market looks set for competitors to do everything they could to slice up the pie for their very own fair share of lucrative profits. Audi responded this with its A1, set to replace the A2 as Audi's smallest car. Audi would clearly know they wont have the playing cards of some distant memory for customers to long for, hence staying true to Vorsprung Durch Technik, the A1 Sportsback Concept will finish off with better equipment levels, higher practicality and an overall package of interior space to rival the Mini. We could expect this A1 to come with the twin charge 1.4 ltr engine, which received numerous awards for its efficient Turbocharge and Supercharge set up, produces 150hp, making this entry level car rivalling the Cooper S' output, should there be a higher end model to come, it would surely have a competitive advantage over the Mini. As for the styling that comes with this concept, we weren't very sure if all those sexy little LED bits would make it into production, nonetheless its an interesting bet since Audi now can be seen spending much time creating headlamps and rearlamps that stands out amongst the crowded streets.
