RS5 Spied undisguise! And it's ugly!

Spied testing in hot weather, this is the first undisguised spy shots of the Audi RS5, we do hoped that these test prototypes were using bumpers that simulate the same amount of airflow from the intake grills as the real 'RS' designed bumpers as this looked exactly like the one shown on the TT-RS earlier, which is also undisguised. Previously assumed to be using the 420hp V8 from B7 RS4, then rumored to be using a 3.0 V6 Supercharged, then Twin Turbo charged, and the latest rumors, it could also be the 5.0 ltr V10 Twin Turbo in the RS6, and CAR Magazine suggests a 4.2ltr V8 Twin Turbo, like that of the previous RS6 Plus.

Hit the jump to continue reading and a shot of the rear.

This got us thinking perhaps Audi wants to continue testing, Audi wants us to continue spying, and Audi wants us all to be surprised. This is due base on current track records, it's impossible Audi would do something like that to the sleek TT, and the most beautiful car designed by Walter De Silva - A5. It's just plain ugly and annoying to look at, and we believe Audi wants us to think that way. The quad pipes shown, should be change to those flat oval RS pipes when it comes to production, and of course, the wide body.

I personally don't think it's ugly at all. I would buy one if offered. Haha

Buy if offered? M3 retails for RM680,000 I'm sure the RS5 would cost way more. :)

Well i don't think it's ugly per se, probably just not as good looking as the RS6.

Maybe Audi is going for a corporate RS look, thus the very similar front end treatment between the TT-RS and the RS5.

As far as i remembered there has never been a case where a car manufacturer deliberately designed a whole different bumper just to put off the media. It's either they use a mule with looks from a different model, or disguises, be it tapes or thicker plastic covers.

It will be hard for Audi to create a harder, more muscular look for the RS5. The side fairings are too curvy, with the shoulder lines too far away from the wheel arches. Flared wheel arches is an RS must, and unless they go for an RS6-esque squarish retro arch extensions, they'll end up with a tame looking car, especially from the side view, much like the E92 M3 actually.

The E46 M3 had massively bloated wheel arches, which gave it the classic "3-Series on steroids" look. This worked because the E46 model was still quite boxy in its overall design. The same can be said of the previous RS4.

With this RS4, muscular bloated arches would look way out of place if combined with it's naturally svelte good looks.

The so-called bloated wheel arches, is actually there for the wider axles, and tyres for better traction and stability.

Well we wouldn't know how the final design would look like as for now, that hypes up the anticipation. As I said again, Audi had never disappoint anyone recently, never should, especially on an RS model.

Appreciate your insights hafriz.
