BMW X6 - The World's First Sports Activity Coupe. Ehem

We might have grumbled about this a zillion times, but the BMW PAS Concept's drawings got us here again.

We love the astonishing dynamics of the BMW X6, the outright capabiliity of an X6 in terms of achieving what SUVs couldn't; and the sheer egomaniac stubbornness for BMW to go ahead with something so groundbreaking (unnecessarily).

However, we can't hold ourselves from knowing its a classic case of marketing department overriding the engineering department on such a creation, because every single point that makes the X6 great isn't what that inspire the creation of the X6.

Yes, it is damn capable on a track, and for something that could make do with some off roading, it handles better than many road cars out there. The 4.4 liter Twin Turbo V8 or the 3.0 ltr Twin turbo I6 are both fantastic machines that generate outputs that shy engines with 2 cylinder or more. However, all these are stuffs BMW has been doing, and the X5 could easily be equipped with it as well.

So, all that's left that's 'UNIQUE' about the X6, is the form factor, of which BMW continuously bombard it through marketing campaigns that tells people it is the 'FIRST' Sports Activity Coupe. Of course, the first rule of a Coupe is to have 2 doors and calling it a coupe is as if Toyota calling their open top RAV4 a roadster all because it had a targa top, or more absurdly, perhaps the Jeep Wrangler is a Coupe as well.

Fine, we understand the X6 is meant for people who likes a commanding ride height, that could do well on highways, go for a bit of offroading, and could still make use of the lack of a 5th seat as an excuse to tell ladies he's still single, and the four doors are just there to ease going in and out.

Now, coming back to the picture we posted atop. If BMW claims they are the first that thought of such a thing, les not be dwindled into believing their claims for being the first Sports SUV, have a look at the AMC Eagle SX/4, it certainly looks like a sports car with an offroader height. The year of make? 1983. Oh, if you find that the X6 still trumps it by two more doors, there's a 4 door version of the Eagle SX/4.

Not to mention a host of sporty SUVs such as the Isuzu Vehicross, year? 1993.

that picture comparison is flawed .... if both were parked next to each other, the AMC would be about a 2/3 the height and length of the X6, the x6 is freakin huge.

as for your stupid rants about the x6, its a freaking beauty. and x5 owners might drive their car day in and out, whereas x6 would most likely tell people its just your second car .. its cool ...
