Detroit Auto Show 2009: Volkswagen BlueSports Concept Unveiled!

Volkswagen brought the future to the Detroit Auto Show today. Unveiling the BlueSport Concept 2 Seater Sports Roadster. What catches one's attention here is VeeDub's term for green tech - Blue to be precise.

Why do we mention the future? Well, a sports car that's environmentally conscious? You bet it. As Volkswagen Audi had already establish themselves as the manufacturer with the best technology in Diesel, bring diesel to racing, taking diesel to a luxury SUV, and also a diesel sports car - The Audi TT 2.0 TDi that returns 53mpg, VW now tugs it into a 2 seater roadster that provides oozes of fun, yet returns 57mpg.

Hauling a weight of only 2600lbs (1181KG), this roadster will accelerate to 100km/h in 6.2sec from the 6 Speed DSG gearbox, 45:55 weight distribution, a total length of only 3.9 meters and 182 liters of cargo area. How cool was that?

Volkswagen. Put it into production.

Well, according to VW it needs 3 manufacturers under them to agree to produce this car for it to achieve economy of scale.
