With bad news sweeping every corner of the automotive industry, and Japanese juggernaut Toyota posing a drop of 30% in revenue and the first annual loss in 71 years, its without surprise this news came about during times like these. With a rather dismal performance of only selling 888 units since its inception, the TRD Aussie division, armed with a rather 'lame' lineup of two vehicles, a workman's horse TRD Hilux, and a tarted up TRD Aurion (Camry to all of us).
The shutting off of TRD Australia, might not give much outcry of losses over for the folks down south. However for us, it wasn't really a case of bad decision making, or that their 'tarters' looked bad either, but rather a case of bad model lineup, if they were to offer say 'tarted up' RWD Lexus lineups, with monikers given during the days when Lexus wasn't officially available in Japan, with rebadged Toyota lineups of IS, GS, LS, RX all given a go in the Japanese market as Altezza, Aristo, Celsior and Harrier; it might proof to be some sort of better product positioning rivaling the likes of Holden HSVs and Ford FPVs in Australia. TRD Altezza, now that sounds much more familiar and cred worthy.
