2008 Paris Motor Show: Sony Ericsson controls Saab (sort of)

Sony Ericsson and Saab showcased a unique tie-up in the show, where they feature a device, (or a software to be precise) that's able to control certain functions of a Saab 9X BioHybrid Concept, much like Audi A1's integration of a phone and other functions available on modern car keys, the interfaces on phones allows more functions to be integrated. As shown in the screenshot of a Sony Ericsson P1, where you will first be greeted with a selection menu of controlling the car's exterior or interior features. Then users could proceed with almost all conceivable features as long as they're connected to the ECU, ranging from blinkers, in car ambient lighting, front and rear seats adjustments (for what?) etc. Cool but isn't it a litle bit extreme to be able to even control the lights and indicators? There's no mention on whether it could start or stop the engine thou, of which we doubt for the time being, for if they could, it would definitely be in the press kit. These we felt, will definitely be something we'll see more often, just hope mobile operators won't jump in and try reaping profits by restricting such functions in their own portals and then start charging us. ("Please send 'indicatorON' to 33000" Each SMS costs $10). Currently they've developed this application to be used with the upcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 and the current Sony Ericsson P1.
