Smart ForTwo Wins Cannonball Run 2008
A 3000 mile across Europe road rally dubbed the Cannonball Run, which was inspired by the late 80s movie starring Burt Reynolds, Farrah Fawcett and the yet to be famous Jackie Chan.
Participants are not limited to any sort of restrictions as long as their cars are road legal.
Unbelievably, amongst the likes of much much more capable cars, a Brabus Smart ForTwo won the race, despite it being slightly ECU tuned and suspension upgrades, this 5 year old second Smart had brought David Ward and Adrian Hull to victory.
"The downfall of the bigger cars was that they were forced to stop so often, so while they kept overtaking us, we eventually went past them at the next petrol station when they needed to fill up again," said David, who runs an estate agency in South Woodford. "We kept at a decent speed and still averaged around 35 miles per gallon."
Adding to the contrary, despite being first time participants, their ride is the only one without an in car Satelite Navigation System, prefering instead the age old map reading, U-turns and asking pedestrians and petrol station owners. Cool! Congratulations!
