New Saab 9-5 Previewed in Saab Owner's Convention 2008
Everytime I read news about Saabs, an unstoppable urge of sourness would always pour out. A creative, dynamic manufacturer with all the brains of the world, but after being taken over by GM, the ailing behemoth was just too busy with it's own demise in the States, not being able to fund Saab with all that it needs to develop it's R&D programs.
Take the 9-5 for example (pictured above), launched in 1997, it is one of the most desirable mid size executives back then, challenging the all conquering 5 series, it gave a good fight. Fast forward to 2008, the 9-5 was still being sold, using the same chassis albeit with plenty of improvements done on suspension, engine management systems, interior fittings, and a full frontal and back face lift (pictured below); in fact the original chassis was so good that it even pass the latest Euro Ncap crash tests with a flying 5 star top pick, of which is almost impossible for any 1997 cars to score a 3 star (The current 5 series scoring a 4 star for comparisons). Now word has it that the sketches of the new Saab 9-5 was shown at the Saab Owner's Convention 08', continue reading to find out.
However, what transpired from the Saab Owner's Convention 2008 revealed something very interesting, a sketch was projected, carrying very similar design cues from the Saab Aero X concept that wowed the world over 3 years back, sporting a wrap around front windscreen, the new Saab family face, and 'plenty of aircraft inspired' designs - we might just make it a pass for that thou, and it will be Turbocharged, a Saab stronghold and tradition and technology and innovations from the recent Saab 9-3 X will be applied into the upcoming 9-5.
It's been 10 years since the 9-5 had served Trollhattans, hopefully the new 9-5 would serve some Bavarians as well.
