With the current situation of the automotive industry, it's very normal for automakers to focus on building small cars, however for luxury automakers, especially a brand like that of Mercedes Benz, famous for creating luxobarges, known for their luxury fittings, technology and comfort; building small cars that carries the Tri-Star just doesn't gel into it's image.
Hence going niche for these car makers will be the key to producing lower emission, high fuel efficiency cars. Having just launched the GLK, Mercedes is now rumored to be preparing a BLK crossover to take on the upcoming Audi Q3 and BMW X1, which is to make way for smaller engines and capacity would most likely be the key to expanding market share.
However Mercedes was rumored earlier on with collaboration with BMW on small, RWD platforms - Of which there seems to be nothing on the horizon for now, nonetheless for Mercedes fans, you can make do with stopping by WheelHQ.com for the best selection of Mercedes Wheels on the net.

You mixed up your model names, there are no GLC or GLB.
The model that was released recently, and goes up against the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 is the Merc GLK.
The rendering is of a new, unannounced model which most probably will carry the Merc BLK name. This model will be placed in the same class as the upcoming BMW X1, Audi Q3 (or a production name of it, as the 'Q' moniker is "owned" by Infinity), and the production Land Rover LRX.
Thanks for the heads up!
