Honda City Spied in glory slight disappointment?

The Honda City, a model sharing the platform of the clever, much sough after Jazz/Fit in South East Asia, is a very important model for Honda in these markets as it's THE rival for the all conquering Toyota Vios. Spied vigorously over the course of a couple of months, it's only till now where a flickr account containing up close photos of the production model where we could now finally conclude this is it.

With only one engine variant available, the 1.5 ltr i-VTEC engine will produce 120hp, coupled with a 5 speed transmission, gone is the 7 speed CVT gearbox and the 1.4 ltr i-DSI engine and the rather nice interior of the previous City.

One issue worth noting is, after the current Civic's excellent dual layer interior evolutioned it's way into the Stream, current Accord and the Jazz/Fit that was just released, everyone anticipated the new City to sport Ingolstadt-ish interiors as well, showing it's nemesis Toyota, how is it like to build a decent interior. To our utter disappointment, perhaps succumbing to profitability, Honda decides to go with a China-like interior for the City. Our verdict? "Honda, a wonderful car would save you millions in A&P budget." Nonetheless, we're very sure the City would pack some of Honda's clever stuffs from Jazz, the flexible seats, the nice cubby holes and cupholders and PADDLE SHIFTERS for those who could imagine themselves doing a Schumacher flicks.

No doubt the new City is looking great physically. Nevertheless, Vios has a more pleasant and "classy" dashboard design.

In addition, City is more appearing on male buyer. However, the dashboard design let me down. It's like China made interior, especially the 3 turning knobs... i.e, ugly and not flashy at all. Vios, on the other hand is more feminine towards female buyers.

The main crucial consideration is the pricing of these difference cars. Under this budget car model, I would say a rational buyer would consider the pricing apart of its built quality.

Thus, Vios won't lose out the majority portion of potential youngsters. It's just a matter of different cup of tea for different buyer. Keke....

To me, instead of paying twice for Japanese CKD car, I would rather go for the national car, i.e. 2008Proton Saga. Size wise, it's slighly shorter (roughly the length of short ruler) and with some quality issue and technology lacking behind, it's a worth buy for Malaysian. Unless I have plenty of money to spend,.... it's otherwise. hahaha!
