As shown in their October 2008 cover issue, one can clearly see Munich and Ingolstadt battling it down wanting to be the first to burst out of the magazine covers and onto your door step, enough of Harry Potters, let's go peek in on what this is all about.
We could clearly see the widebody of the front wheel arches, the aluminum side mirror covers, the honeycomb grill (an RS signature) and of course, the mini RS5 logo pinned snugly, of course the row of LEDs which had now become Audi's signature showcasing the essence of Vorsprung Durch Technik.
CAR also reported that the RS5 would be using a V8 Turbo, which truly got everyone fired up their speculation flak guns, of what previously was thought to be the high tuned version of the S5, producing the same 420hp as the previous RS4, however to be in line with the upcoming B8 RS4, which has got to produce more than 420hp, the RS5 being the premium Grand Tourer of the RS4 shouldn't come with lesser grunt, hence speculation were wild enough to suggest the 5.0 ltr V10 Twin Turbo from the RS6, which might produce up north of 580hp and given a slight tweak, 700hp could be easily achieved.

The second picture (assuming that it is genuine, which i seriously doubt) clearly stated that the Audi has 450bhp.
4.2l Twin turbo V8 with only 450bhp? Doubtful. This might be one of the rumoured 3.0l Supercharged V6. Or even a 3.0l Twin Turbo.
Putting the V10 from the RS6 into the RS4/5 is very unlikely. A detuned version maybe, but a cap of 500bhp sounds about right. They wouldn't want to be shooting themselves in the foot, do they.
Even AMG didn't fit its C63 AMG with their full bore, 500+bhp 6.2l V8. They used a slightly detuned version instead. They call it market strategy.
Having an S5 with 4.2 V8 and a RS5 with a 3.0 V6 TT or Supercharged (As rumored earlier) would be most unlikely, moreover it's already pretty much confirmed that the 3 ltr TFSi engine will not make it into the likes of RS models. It just doesn't fit the bill, and the low production volume wouldn't justify the benefits it gets from being perceives environmentally friendly, versus the loss of sales.
I'm willing to bet on the 4.2 ltr V8 Twin Turbo with FSi.
Sounds plausible enough.
Well if they're indeed using a 4.0 or 4.2l Twin Turbo V8, then it stands to reason that this engine will make it into the R8 sometime in the future eh, come facelift time perhaps?
Latest spypics of the RS5 show a totally different front bumper compared to CAR's pictures, very similar to the TT-RS'. That pretty much confirms my earlier suspicions that CAR's pictures are fake. They look like a photoshop job anyway, transplanting the RS6 front bumpers on the A/S5.
