A quick flashback on the upcoming Volkswagen, Audi lightweight Lotus rival

We've reported earlier on Volkswagen and Audi's upcoming 2 seater, lightweight sportscar that will rival the Lotus Elise, let's do a little flashback in time to 18 years ago.

Audi unveiled the Quattro Spyder Concept, featuring space-age Aluminium Space Frame construction for this concept, a mid ship 2 seater sports car that weighs a minute 1100kg (put into perspective the R8 is 1560kg), with a V6 engine producing 180hp, and a C-Pillar hide-away spoiler which everyone thought Ferrari 599 pioneered it.

When Audi first unveiled the Quattro Spyder in year 1991, many customers had requested this ti be built, however ultimately Audi decide not to put it into production.

It's nice to see the comeback of 'no frills' lightweight 'fun' cars; in comparison with todays road monsters producing 700hp - 1000hp but weighing almost like an MPV, the comeback of these forever lustful sportscars are very much a welcoming sight.

There is one problem thou, will Porsche allow this to eat into Cayman's territory?
