BMW and Fiat to collaborate on 100mpg (42 KM per Liter) mini car - Possible revival of long lost name

The following news came with a hunch for us, as this morning when I woke up and begin my daily 'on-the-bed-industry-current-affair-flashbacks' I thought, it's about time for BMW to come out with a people's car, the MINI seems to be doing the job, but it's still very premium. A real mini car something like 1955s BMW Isetta.

And news came, "BMW and Fiat is embarking on an ambitious mini car project, which is said to be capable of 100mpg, and would revive unused names."

'Reviving unused names' this sounds really interesting as the last round when BMW did a really small car, it is a quirky and fun little car that's in absolute cult status, not only amongst the Germans, but because of it's distinct Italian flair, the Isetta will put a smile on anyone's face in this planet - Something we don't usually relate to BMWs.

Check out the few photos of the BMW Isetta, which was originally designed by Renzo Rivolta, the owner of ISO S.p.A a manufacturer of refrigerators, scooters etc. In the 1950s he decided to design a minicar for mass consumption, coming out with the design of placing to scooters side by side, widen the distance of the front wheels by angling outwards, and then place a refrigerator door, which opens like a fridge door as well.

With a canvas roof where surviving occupants (if they survive) of a crash would climb out from, and a steering wheel that goes out with the door when it's opened; we can't helpbut figure that the designers really went all out defending the impracticality of the fridge door. (Except when placing two pieces of huge meat on the front seats.
