Nissan May global output up 5.1 percent















TOKYO (Thomson Financial) -- Nissan, Japan\'s third-largest automaker by sales, said today its global output rose 5.1 percent to 275,918 vehicles in May from a year earlier, due to a jump in domestic production of vehicles for exports.

The rise in May marked the tenth straight monthly production increase for Nissan.

The company gave the following figures for last month, with year-on-year percentage changes:

* Domestic vehicle output -- up 40.3 percent at 100,299

* Domestic car output -- up 41.9 percent at 83,528

* Domestic vehicle sales -- down 9.0 percent at 43,475

* Domestic car sales -- down 11.5 percent at 27,903

* Exports -- up 93.4 percent at 55,880

* Overseas output -- down 8.1 percent at 175,619

* Global production -- up 5.1 percent at 275,918
