Geneva Motorshow: Long Live Sant'Agata! Lamborghini LP670-4 SuperVeloce
We know how it feels working in Sant'Agata nowadays, what used to be loud Italians hammering stubborn nuts into Diablos with a cigarette dangling at the very edge of their lips, and a few bottles of Barolo placed alongside; was now replaced by immaculately clean machinery with precision tools and laser guided camera detection systems that shows each worker where they should place their next footstep, in order to shave off 0.002 seconds from their routines, which would then be immediately calculated into profits or losses from their accounting departments. And of course, Audi executives flown in from Germany walking around with their square chins and oiled, waxed hair combed with a ruler to perfect 30/70 split, walking around tapping their palm with a rolled manual of guidelines for "Contingency for workers that miss step their next foot step" hawking on these poor Italian souls.
However, when the clocks strike the next millesecond ticking off from 5:59'59"59pm and those German executives miraculously vanished in mid air, the Italians would then bring out their Baronos, their Toscano cigars and quietly continue on with what they know best. Supercars. A few millimeters at a time, they re-tuned the exhaust systems of the Murcielago LP640, estimating the flow of air through those exhausts with a subtle knock with a spanner - using ears only a drunken Italian would have. On the other end, that old security guard who quit his job as a car designer when the Germans arrived - Just so he could continue with his cigar whilst at work, quietly sat down and continue his drawing on a Murcielago, outlining larger intakes, darkening parts of the bonnet to diffuse heat, and a few strokes on the rear wing section to increase downforce, all this he estimates while taking another sip of wine, could lower 0-60mp/h sprints to 3.2 second he estimates.
The result? Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce, or in translation "The Return of Insanely Diabolical Lamborghinis Only Italians Could Make"
With the help of those overtime old farts, the SuperVeloce shaved off 100kg from the Murcielago LP640, increased horsepower to 670hp from mild knocking and twisting on the exhaust systems (Germans call it tuning), and widened frontal air intakes helped by those extended front splitters, created a 341km/h Lamborghini Murcielago, and the result is definitely a 21st Century Sant'Agata monster supercar.
The none conformity of the Italians were clearly evident with the inclusion of that optional massive rear wing, where they just wouldn't care much about where to store it or what hydraulic systems to integrate the wings when traveling slowly around town. They just slapped up two aluminum extenders and screw the massive B-52 Bomber wingspan spoiler on top of the bonnet (Rear Engine) and goes "Shut up and go for another track run, its faster now."
And if the Germans returned tomorrow and complained about the slower top speed of 336km/h with the gigantic wing is unacceptable; Sant'Agata might just get themselves three more security guards. Welcome back Sant'Agata.
