2008 Paris Motor Show: Mercedes C250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY

Mercedes will debut it's C250 BlueEFFICIENCY C-Class in the upcoming Paris Motor Show, scheduled for a limited production of 5000 units in Germany, the C250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY sports a powerful 500nm of torque at low revs with it's 2.2 ltr turbocharged diesel capable of running on par with a VW GTi of 0-100 in 7 secs, yet returning an amazing 5.2 ltr per 100km. The best thing is, the magic that underlies all these are not some science lab Frankenstein technology, but simply existing technology applied extensively in the building of these cars.

First off, the ride height was lowered, underbody aerodynamics were better, coupled with minute, detail alterations such as sealed front headlamp joints with the bumper, low friction gears on the rear axle, adaptive steering pumps, weight optimized windscreen, low rolling resistance tyres, self closing flaps within the front grill that reduces air friction, and of course a 6-speed manual gearbox; that all adds up to an extremely efficient design that could be applied to all it's model range.
