Volkswagen considering participation in World Rally Championship

Thou being the world's 3rd largest automaker, Volkswagen Group's efforts in motorsports was considerable minor, with only Audi competing in the 24hr Lemans (1 day race), DTM and Skoda in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge and SEAT in the British and World Touring Car Championships, and the recent entry of Volkswagen's Scirocco in the Nurburgring 24 Hr Challenge, non of these are actually on-par with F1 or WRC in terms of worldwide coverage.

Volkswagen's motorsports chief Kris Nissen had recently visited the Finnish WRC and was rumored to have been in talks with the series officials and team leaders, citing a first for Volkswagen to compete in the WRC.

Ever since Peugeot, Skoda and Mitsubishi's departure from WRC, the officials had reportedly being trying to woo another major automaker in joining the series, hopefully we get to see Volkswagen racing alongside Ford, Suzuki, Subaru and Citroen; it's also rumored that Fiat and Renault are also interested in joining in WRC.
