Audi slaps themselves while provoking BMW. BMW - 1, Audi - 0

This gave me a good laugh yesterday, and stopped me from my ongoing 'self blogging embargo'. Audi, being confident with their new A4 (they actually deserved to) decided to take up some 'half-cooked idea from some smart ass advertising agency' to put up a billboard in Santa Monica (USA) that goes "Your move, BMW." with the excellent new A4 beside.

Well, it all goes well until BMW retaliated brilliantly (Kudos to their ad agency) by putting up a billboard of an M3 with this: "Checkmate."

This had generated so much attention, that I believe what Audi could do now is to continue the 'conversation'. Every single day leaving their current billboard, would be advertising dollars spent on amusing Santa Monicans.

So the only thing, from an advertising perspective is to turn BMW's 'answer' into a statement, making it looked like BMW started the 'Ad war'. So a billboard of a bunch of Audis with the message 'Really?' would do well.

And after this, the only thing BMW could retaliate with is to remove their billboard all together to make Audi's ad message ('Really?') looked stupid.

LoL. Oh by the way, its not the first time Audi and BMW started off going medieval against each other : BMW and Audi Ad tussle

UPDATE: Seems my advertising sense is quite good. BMW did actually removed their billboard whilst Audi retaliated with an R8 with the message "Time to check your luxury badge. It may have expired."

My opinion? L-A-M-E-AND-D-E-S-P-E-R-A-T-E. Period. Get a new agency Audi USA.
