2010 Cadillac SRX to make debut at Detroit Auto Show

GM will unveil the new Cadillac SRX in the upcoming Detroit Auto Show, the new Cadillac SRX, contrary to the previous edition, which was based on the Sigma platform, which was the same as the Cadillac CTS, allowing different configurations of a RWD base model and a 4WD top range.

The new SRX however, will be based off the part of the Theta platform and Epsilon II architecture, which is a more practical solution to the Front Wheel Drive base version and an All Wheel Drive top range.

The main difference between the new 2010 Cadillac SRX and the previous generation, is that the form factor had shift from a crossover between a wagon and SUV to a complete SUV form. This is definitely a better fixture and places it right in the segment of Audi Q5, BMW X3, Lexus RX markets, albeit as always, cheaper. But is cheaper not better this time around? Unlikely.

The interior was miles ahead of its predecessor, gone are those ugly designs that reminds us of how forgiving can people in their 60s or 70s can be, with ugly wood panels, uninspiring mixture of perhaps putting an accountant in charge of the interior's development. What we have in the new SRX, is a consistent design theme from the latest Cadillac CTS that's pack full of teutonic German feel and quality, with a good mixture of chrome bits, metallic finish; all in all, definitely a place where the picky Brits from BBC would have no chance to pick upon other than wondering why they themselves could't pull off something like that with their non-existing British automobile industry.

More good news, is that the SRX will be equipped with Saab Turbo X's Cross Wheel Drive system, which is able to send power to exactly where's needed, balancing between exciting handling and traction, other than than Saab's 2.8ltr V6 Turbocharged powerplant will also be made available. What we would like to see however, is the inclusion of a good diesel powerplant.

Now only would that greatly help GM pushing the Cadillac SRX into European markets, but the growing popularity of Diesel powered vehicles in US would be of good use for this SRX to tap onto this market. Moreover, for most buyers of this segment, will this be a better buying proposition than that of the Cadillac CTS Wagon

All in all, this new Cadillac SRX is definitely miles ahead of its predecessor, but is it better than the intended market it's suppose to compete with? With the new 2010 Lexus RX on the horizon
