Car Buying Dilemma in Malaysia - Thoughts of contradiction

Car buyer Ah Meng looking at a 2 year old Honda Civic on MotorTrader and said :"I will not buy second hand cars! They suck!"

Car buyer Ah Meng then went to a Honda dealer and purchased the new City with a 9 year car loan repayment.

Can any1 recommend reputable places to shop for 2nd hand cars? E.g. we have lowyat plaza for IT hardwares here, how bout 2nd hand car?

Or we have to rely on motor mag/newspaper ad to try our luck randomly?

It would be nice if other make such as toyota/honda having certified 2nd hand car program directly available from main dealer, such as bmw.

The difference with buying second hand and first hand, is that the product quality VARIES, thus you should completely ignore the seller, whether they're reputable for good service or not.

A good car could end up with a bad dealer, vice versa. It's always good to go shop for yourself accompanied by a mechanic, if found one that he reckoned 'worth a try' (actually most are); then testdrive and get it to a workshop and do a thorough check.

Many people have heard of 'problems' that occured when buying second hand. Well to be frank, buying from dealers are much more reliable than buying from independent sellers whom you do not know at all (at times), as dealers can cover plenty of stuffs that you're able to identify within 1 or 2 week's time. Moreover, buying 2nd hand its always wise to do a good service, changing all fluids when you got your car, just to be safe.

Once driven for a while, and going thru a couple of services yourself, you'll 'know' your car's servicing condition and then you'll be able to begin anticipating what's upcoming.

A friend of mine gotten himself a new Avanza when it was first launched (he had no use of the extra 2 seats, just that a Japanese car under RM60k is unbeatable); then he envied the other friend who gotten a 1999 Honda HRV (Japan import) 2nd hand for RM50k.

Build quality is miles apart, not to mention the style, the ride, the feel good factor.
