Yes, the wait is finally over, Ford has revealed the new Ford Mustang, and it is hot, not only by the looks; but Ford is determine to win the muscle car battle, now that Dodge's Challenger, Chevrolet's Camaro were both out there taking sales away from Ford. The new Mustang,thou looking similar, can actually be considered a new model, as improvements and changes can be regarded as 'drastic measures taken'. Almost all body panels are different, engine revised, suspension tweaked, transmission optimized, and the interior, from the pictures alone you can tell, even an ex Audi owner will be satisfied. Let's have a look shall we? As with Wheels Weekly's constant practice, I will not just post the new car's pictures, post the Press Release, typing all meaningless mm x mm x mm or figures and call it a day off. I will always source similar pictures of the previous model and show you the difference of the then, and NOW. Here goes. On the left corner, the old Ford Mustang GT, and then, the NEW Ford Mustang GT.
First glance, its already obvious. The new Mustang looks much more sophisticated, there are more surface treatments in its design, the bulbous wheel arch now blends seamlessly into the body, the hood now sports a power bulge, the headlights now hide behind a more slanted front grill, and the indicators cleverly integrated beside the front headlamps. In short, it looks more menacing, replacing that 'wide-eye HUR?! look' with a very assuring, confident stare.
The rear, now sports more tiny curvatures in the execution, from a flat, dull rear bumper, the new one integrates nicely with a set of refreshed rear lamps with an underline that follows the bumper's surfacing, curving upwards towards the outer end. Again, the blending of the wheel arches really makes the side profile looked alot more refined and should I say? European; from blunt straighforward lines to curvy, edgy sophisticated modern looks.
Now here's the best part, just look at it. The interior of the original Mustang, is not too far away from China or Malaysian made cars, the materials that was used, the switch gears all scream "Cheeeaaap". Fast forward to the new 2010 Ford Mustang, it's apparent, the one piece dashboard (reduces creaks and weird sounds), the materials, the illuminated switch gears, the chrome linings, that 6" front speaker cover; EVERYTHING, just about everything is comparable to any good European manufacturer, and this should be what that befits the legendary status of the Ford Mustang.
As for the 4.6ltr V8, it now develops 315hp, very low compared to the likes of BMW or Audi's which screams 100hp more, but we all know high revving screaming engines meant more frequent visits to ehem....
Finally, I've never even felt this way before, even during Chevrolet's launch of the Volt, that American manufacturers, specifically Ford in this saying; that I felt the sincerity, the tongue biting, hard sweating determination to actually wanting to do something seriously and perfectly, and then proudly presenting it to the American or World public, not needing any fancy letters or words in the Press Release to bedazzle the media; as its apparent in this new Ford Mustang, that the Americans can really do wonderful things, if they wanted to. Kudos to Ford and lets pray altogether that these two 100 year old companies could withstand this round's onslaught and shine again. As for the $25Billion, common, you both knew you'd burn that away in 5 month's time, why put up a blind eye and pretend this is the magic moment you've been waiting for? Get down serious and close production plants, layoff, reduce spending, cut wages, share table lamps and squeeze your brains to come up with more new cars from your parts bin.
Oh ya, Chrysler, just save Dodge and let Chrysler end up in case studies.

the mustang is just HOT. but that big 4.6 won't work here. maybe a 3.0 or 3.6 turbo will be nice for tax heavy countries... that is if ford really know about how to give what the customers in different parts of the world want.
this is part of the 'american' problem. making one car to their own taste and thinking the whole world wants it.
Come on lah Auto Conexxion! Bring in the RHD (Australians are converting!) to Malaysia. If Big-Engined Hummer H3s can sell here, don't tell me at least 1 or 2 Shelby Mustangs wont!??
There are actually imported Mustangs in Malaysia, I've seen two on the road. LHD thou. But they better hold it first, as the current Mustang is really awful, in fact their interior qualities aren't even comparable to KIAs
by the way, the short form for though should be 'tho'. 'thou' in old english actually means 'you'.
