Toyota entered the luxury premium market in year 1989 with Lexus, with a span of a little bit more than 10 years, they've toppled BMW and Mercedes, as the largest market player in the premium segment in the North America market, the world's largest automotive market. Honda and Nissan followed suit with Acura and Infiniti. However, we all know the love of Americans for their V8s, and Honda never had one for Acura, merely satisfying the market that know nothing about appreciating ltr/hp efficiency, without a V8, Acura have long tried hard to crack open the true high end market, moreover Americans regard V6s as environmentally friendly and efficient, quote a saying from Ford's recent Ford Flex, stating that a 'small 3.5ltr V6 will be used to save on petrol. Well, Honda CEO Takeo Fukui dropped the gauntlet today stating that Honda will now equip Acura with V8s further on, but stressed that they'll remain true to Honda's green efforts as highly efficient engines.

Honda was the first to enter the luxury premium market in 1986 with the Acura Legend. So, it was Toyota that followed Honda, not the other way around
