Honda tops JD Power Initial Quality Survey for Malaysia

World renowned Consumer Satisfaction Survey JD Power had revealed the results of the 2008 New Vehicle Initial Quality Study for Malaysia covering four most coveted categories in the market where crippled public transport systems and a healthy economy had rendered Malaysia, despite having just a population of 26 million, being the biggest passenger car market in ASEAN. Thou the awards and merits were based on four categories, with each a winner, we couldn't care less as problems per 100 vehicles (Industry Standard) shouldn't be categorized into segments as problems is, and will forever be, problems. The mechanics of the survey goes in the form of reported (PP100V) problems per 100 vehicles within the period of 2 to 6 months of ownership of a new car and the one that 'scores' the lowest would meant being less problematic. The results are as:

Top Three (Regardless of category)
Honda Civic - 101PP100V
Perodua Myvi - 104PP100V
Honda City - 112PP100V

Base on categories of which they belong:

Mid Size Sedan (Industry average 142PP100V)
1st - Honda Civic 101PP100V
2nd - Nissan Sentra 135 PP10V
3rd - Proton Waja 154 PP10V

Small Size Sedan (Industry average 223PP100V)
1st - Honda City 112PP100V
2nd - Toyota Vios 145PP100V
3rd - Proton Saga 210PP100V

Compact Hatchback (Industry average 128PP100V)
1st - Perodua Myvi 104PP100V
2nd Perodua Kenari 132PP100V
3rd Perodua Viva 152PP100V

MPV (Industry average 137PP100V)
1st - Toyota Innova 126PP100V
2nd Toyota Avanza 133PP100V
3rd - Nissan Livina 175PP100V

Don't get shock looking at the figures and go 'Oh my god the Saga had 210 problems per 100 vehicle?" Stay calm, as you see, most cars would have a lifespan of around 5 years, where perhaps the first or second year was to achieve the amortization numbers to offset the huge development and R&D costs, and then later on they get the profits they've invested in. As such, problems that underlies each model will be slowly iron out as the years gone by. But it's still a long way to go for Saga and Livina. As for the MPV segment, I doubt the Honda Stream, Odyssey, Mitsubishi Grandis, Hyundai Trajet, Kia Carina, Citra was included in this survey. And I believe if there was such a survey done during the first year of launch for the Gen2, everyone would be out of the 'limelight'.
