The Ultimate Toyota MR-2

We all know the Toyota MR-2 is a decently capable mid engine Japanese sportscar, with striking F355-ish looks, it's as sports a sportscar can look, with the distinctive sleek profile and the 'must-have' for 80s sportscar - Pop-up headlamps.

Now reading the post title and knowing that this Turbo-charged MR-2 must be some crazy sub 10 second quarter mile drag machine with turbos perhaps larger than that of a steamboat cooker; and almost pre-assumptiously from USA.

But no. This came from a place where everything is a bit more complicated, every thing is a bit more well engineered, much sophisticated, much refined. Yes - Germany that is.

This is actually a MR-2 for sale from the MR2Forum.de, an MR-2 enthusiast forum from Deuschland, and the interesting bit of this car, is at the very beginning where the seller's 'requirements' for the potential buyer includes:
  • Knowledge in programming (Visual Basic)
  • Knowledge in electronics
  • Knowledge in micro controller
  • Skills in PC Technology
Baffled? Look beyond and you'll discover why, as this MR-2 from a computer studies graduate was fully equipped with all the technologies from the 21st century. This MR-2 had a custom interface designed and engineered by this forum member 'LaraCroft' which houses a Dual-Core 2GHz CPU with 1GB of RAM, a 30GB HDD that could withstand -20 degree celcius to 70 degree celcius, a touch screen, GPS, Radar sensor powered by Windows XP Professional running on a custom interface designed using Visual Basics.

The driver could literally control everything within the engine's ECU, from monitoring oil temp, water temp, air conditioning, lap times, headlights, fog lamps, ignition, petrol gauge, battery, gas mileage (Which automatically resets when you shut the driver's door after a refuel), temperature in and out of the car, indicate brake fluid, oil pressure, follow me home lights, auto dimming of in-car displays, seat heating, turbo psi adjusts, reminder of service intervals, accelerometer, a black box that records all information such as speed, turn signal, GPS position etc into a database, which in the case of an accident, there should be no argument, play MP3s, VCD etc.

Shocked? Wait, it even has something like a BMW iDrive, allowing him to access all these with a simple jog-stick which could be operated by turning, pressing, toggle etc, should be be lazy to go with the touch screen while driving. All in all, we're stunned and amazed how user friendly the system, the presentation of the interface, the detail gone into the finishing and programming of this MR-2 which is simply fanfuckingtabuloustic.
