Despite all the positive reviews of the Jaguar XF, honestly speaking I do have a hunch (not sure why) that the XF is not enough to return Jaguar to the blacks. Nonetheless, every petrol head would remember the fabulous Jaguar E-Type, the much voted most beautiful car in the world, and every petrol head that I've met, whether they love BMWs or Alfa Romeos or Toyotas, never hated Jaguar for some reason, you can have people disliking certain brands, but never for once I heard someone disliking Jaguar, hell even Ferrari had its haters. Now news has it that Jaguar had trademarked both C-XE and C-XJ, leaving us (everyone actually) guessing what could these be.
Jaguar currently has the XJ as the flagship, then the XF competing against the likes of 5 series. The XK grand tourer sportscar and the aging,
Ford X-Type. Our guess? C-XE could be the replacement for the X-Type, and the C-XJ should be a smaller sportscar, something like a coupe version, well these are wild, baseless speculations as well. But lets come down to our educated guesstimation, Jaguar have not had a single cent of profit for the last 18 years, this could be a very viable reason that Jaguar might focus on more 'profitable' segments.
Yes, the 3-Series/C-Class/A4 market is highly competitive, but its also full of opportunities, a good, capable product in this market would immediately be picked up, and to compete in this segment, you need not only must have the 4 door sedan, but the 4 seater coupe of this segment are also highly sought after, with markets and profitability much much better than trying to squeeze into the Porsche Boxster/Audi TT/BMW Z4 market.
A beautiful Jaguar coupe costing around $40,000 and a sedan that goes a few grands lesser? You bet.
