Lotus considering resurrecting the Carlton

In the 1990s when super cars like Ferrari or Porsches had a 'meagle' 300hp to 'rule the streets' Lotus did a world's first by taking a passenger car from Vauxhall, and created the Lotus Carlton. A 4 door saloon with a staggering 377hp, capable of blowing Porsches, Lamborghinis, Ferraris in the dust.

Within cult realms, many fans had longed for a revival of this wallpaper classic, Lotus CEO Michael Kimberley had told Autocar that he would "like the company to build another car in the mould of the Lotus Carlton."

Hit the jump for more pictures of Lotus Carlton and something we hoped dearly not to happen.

Our question is, what car would Lotus be given the go by Proton to work its project on, and what sort of benchmark would Lotus place, given that it's the fastest 4 door saloon in the world during its time, with super saloons like BMW M5 generating 500hp and Brabus Bullit pulling a staggering 733hp nowadays, what stunt can Lotus be capable of pulling off?

And hopefully Proton wouldn't grab it's chances for a PR stunt on Lotus Waja
