2009 GTi to have 211hp, R32 CANCELLED!

New details have been released by Volkswagen for the real Golf everyone's waiting for. The 2009 Golf GTi will retain the 2.0 TFSi engine, but with Audi's new Variable Valvelift System, improving efficiency and boosting power to 211hp, needless to say, torque was improved as well. In today's hot hatch market, 211hp is really nothing much given that the Mazdaspeed 3 generates 265hp and the new Subaru WRX which decided to shy away from Evo X and compete with the hot hatches again has the formidable 2.2 ltr boxer engine with 280hp.

Many now would think ah~ nevermind, the GTi had a more sinister sibling that should level the playing field, however thanks to treee huggers, the new EU emission regulations had forced Volkswagen to abandon the R32 moniker, which had traditionally been the lusted for, but not taken for Golf. However word has it that a new GTi-R variant of the 2.0 TFSi engine with 265hp (Audi S3) should be a safe bet to - In Our Opinions? - Make more money for Volkswagen. (2.0 TFSi can anytime be tuned to exceed those figures for all we care)
