Volkswagen to produce the 1 Liter

Perhaps the title would suggest 'What's the hype about a ONE liter car?'

However this car, is capable of traveling 100KM using only 1 liter of petrol.

YES, 100 KILOMETERS ON 1 LITER OF PETROL.

That translates to 282mpg, to put into perspective, the Toyota Prius, does 'only' 68mpg.

Initially VW decides to produce this 2 seater car when carbon monocoque prices were expected to drop from $35,000 to $5,000 in the year 2012, now VW claims they can build and sell this profitably by the year 2010.

The production spec would most probably be a 2 cylinder engine with less than 300cc displacement, equipped with crash crumple zones, airbags, ABS and stability control systems. That's quite a feat for such a small package.

Assuming our usual car's full tank capacity is 50 liters, even if this car comes with a 25 liter tank, it would still be able to travel 2500 kilometers on one tank of petrol. If our usual rides are able to do this, we could practically drive from Beijing to Singapore on one tank of petrol.

Check out other pictures of the car.
