Peugeot 407 locally assembled in Malaysia

Nasim Sdn Bhd, the authorized dealer of Peugeot in Malaysia had announced the availability of the locally assembled Peugeot 407. Nasim is one of the subsidiaries of Naza, the largest Automobile Dealer Conglomerate in Malaysia.

The move had put the 407, a car that competes in D segment (Camry, Accord) into C segment! Directly competing with a Civic 2.0 with unbeatable interior space, 5 Star Euro NCAP crash results, 7 Airbags and an integrated GPS Navigation system. All at the price of RM136,000.

These equipment levels even exceed those of cars that costs around RM180,000 where it's generally dominated by Japanese models, offering 2 airbags and MP3 stereo, nothing else.

It is a very encouraging sight, and sets example of how European or American makes can make an impact in this country where car ownership per household is the highest in Asia and with the largest consumption for sedans in ASEAN market, even thou population was 2 - 3 times smaller than that of Thailand or Phillipines.

What is gonna happen to the 407? Peugeot's assembling work is already so bad even in their own country. I wonder what it is gonna be like to do it out of the country. QC? Not being bias but if you ask me 'Never buy a Peugeot in Malaysia, okay car - with a high price - bad service - high maintenance'
