2010 Audi Q5
This has been Audi's long awaited challenger to BMW's X3 and the upcoming Mercedes Benz GLK (Thou on pure looks wise, we'd figure there's nothing to worry about)
Be ready to indulge yourself into this press kit that if lay alphabet by alphabet, would reach the moon and back on font size 32 - perhaps.
Ok, it's not Wheels Weekly's style to post the entire press release for you to get smacked by your boss, hence risking ourselves being smack by our bosses, we'll digest the press kit and provide you with key information; and we're not bothered what official colors would be offered for choices since it's even legal to change one's sex nowadays, we couldn't be bothered with whatever color one might spray upon getting their uber Q5s.
4.63 meters long, 1.88 meters wide and only 1.65 meters tall, giving the Q5 a stance that's ever sportier than any of it's rivals. With headlamps sporting Audi's day time running LED lights, and the aggresive Audi grille, with wheel wells ready for 20 inch sports rims, 0.33 Coefficient drag (lowest in segment), and weighing at 1730KG.
Made of high strength tensile steel with a tensile strength of 1,600 megapascals, one could practically hang 6 Audi Q5s on a piece of this steel measuring 2mm thick x 3cm wide. An amazing feat.
Keeping with Audi's tradition of offering cars that wouldn't rust, the steels are further galvanized, and the entire frame is submerge in hot wax before assembly. The Airbags fitted in the car is revolutionary, calculating the position of the seats adjusted and weight, the airbag would deploy accordingly to the occupants seating postition and possible size of occupant.
Innovative features include the car radiators are mounted on sliding fixatures, giving room in a collision, so that in minor collisions the radiator would slide in, instead of being punctured and need replacement. Minor bumps in parking lots will not leave any dents to the bumpers thanks to innovative use of materials.
Cargo area is a very decent 580 liter, with the rear seats folding flat, the Q5 can take up to 1560 liters of luggage.
Of course in terms of engine range offered, Audi had a huge range of engines ranging from 2.0 TFSi, 3.0 V6; however the most interesting engine would be the 2.0 TDi and 3.0 TDi turbo diesel options, of which a test earlier by German Autobild magazine took 11 Audi A4 with the 2.0 turbo diesel engine on a 1650km road trip, with enough fuel in the tank to go for another 400km.
That's about it, as for defaults such as Audi's excellent Quattro 4WD system and the best integrated multimedia controller in class (compared to BMW's nightmarish iDRIVE) the MMI is also included, and a 7 Speed automatic gearbox offered.
