Next Audi TT to be a midship?

With Volkswagen said to release a mid engine, lightweight, cheap sportscar; many would have guessed that should be the rumored Audi R4, which is a baby R8. However, there's now rumors stating the next Audi TT will be mid engine! Something that will truly transform the TT from a mere hairdresser's car into a true BMW Z Series rival.

The original TT came from a the Audi TTS Concept unveiled in 1995, looking absolutely out-of-this-world, but normal for optimistic car shows.

Audi then stunned the whole world by putting the TT into production, not cutting any of the show car's futuristic curves, and in 1998 the world witnessed the first 'future car'. Show casing the first production car with bonnet lines blending into the bumpers, many manufacturers soon follow suit on the TT's constuction methods.

However the next TT won't come so soon, as a facelift is slated in 2009, speculations suggest 2013 for the new TT to unveil, soonest perhaps 2012.

There's one problem thou, Porsche had just taken over Volkswagen, and it is widely rumored that Porsche is very unhappy on Audi coming out with the R8, not only that it's cheaper and faster and better than the Porsche 911, it's even better looking (obviously).

Hence should VAG continue to churn out products that would eat into Porsche's market, we reckon Porsche, would put it into a stop, given that Porsche had never deny their hostile takeover was due to to VAG increasingly stepping into Porsche's supercar foray.
