New Mercedes GLK to rival Audi Q5 and BMW X3

It's very clear Mercedes Benz wants to position the GLK slightly away from Audi's Q5 and BMW's X3.

It doesn't look as urban friendly as Q5, no where near as ugly as the hideous car of the year consecutive winner X3. It looks squarish, very bold lines suggesting this GLK means business, they're clearly creating something that targets straight at Land Rover, with luxurious interiors coupled with serious off road capability.

The question here, is what sort of buyers are these? And how big that market is? With large SUVs demand on the decline, smaller ones definitely have a market, but most buyers tend to use it on the city, or roads; thou this doesn't mean this car is not meant for the roads, but the perception it gave, is very close to the G-Class.

Of course it will come with plenty of engine options (we don't rule out an AMG model with some ridiculous engines) and fit and finishing will be Merc's familar grounds.

We're rather worried by the 'excellent off road' image it projects.
