Ferrari's new direction

A piece of art isn't it?

As the epitome of human achievement, able to transform metal that we dig from some dirty quarries, and sludgy oil sucked from beneath the sea into something like this. Revving 9000 revolutions per minute, creating an unforgettable soundtrack of fantasy, dreams, hopes for a 10 year old kid to study hard, a 20 year old to work hard, and to remind a 50 year old life wasn't that punishing after all.

Ferrari, having fueled mankind's achievement for the past couple of decades; reminding us that pollution, carbon dioxide and monoxide fumes emitted, the screeching and burning of tyres, the snobbish corner eye from a Ferrari dealer and the countless sleepless nights to check whether it's still in the garage - are all worthwhile in the end.

A Ferrari means living your life large, it meant you couldn't care less about what's happening to the world, or whether there are any aliens invading Earth, or whether your wife's gonna forgive you for that lipstick smudged collar. A Ferrari means the dying of the Polar bears or the Siberian tigers are just Darwin's evolution theory in full effect, it meant the burning out of fossil fuels will only push humans to pursue alternative sources of energy, which will benefit many generations to come, and a Ferrari meant that Global Warming will only bring a longer Summer for those living in the arctic circle and those who suffer drought would learn to salvage and cherish water.

Well, it seems the good old days are now gone.

Sporting direct fuel injection, the new Ferrari California is able to combust fuel more efficiently, thus cleaner exhaust fumes, delivering more power yet consuming less fuel, reminding us that whilst achieving high performance, we should be environmentally friendly; the California now has dual clutch transmissions, reminding us that we should do less mountain road driving, we should stop enjoying the scenery whilst indulge in the fabulous soundtrack, and that we should pay attention on how to overtake the car in front, telling us that every millionth of a second we saved from switching gears will be able to end our race sooner, and perhaps be a winner of that chromed throphy, suggesting that the journey is not as important as the destination.

Ferrari is rumored to be planning on cutting emmision gases by 40%, studying on a possibility of a hybrid sportscar; and also planning on a smaller V6 turbocharged engine to have a smaller environmental footprint.

Ferrari also succumbed to soaring market demands for offering the California with a hardtop folding roof, allowing the marketing department to intervened engineering department's decision making.

Has Ferrari destroyed the heritage of the brand? All in the name of environment? All in the name of being profit oriented? Taking away our childhood dreams and place us into the harsh reality?

Nonetheless, we still love em, but Hybrids? common...
